On the evening of Sat 24/08 where he met with members of the "milli council". He gave his general Sermon on Sunday, and returned to Cairo. ***************** St. Shenouda's monastery in Sohag: HH the Pope commissioned HG Bishop Youannes to handle the administrative affairs of this monastery, and the neighbouring Red Monastery (El Deir El Ahmar). HG left for Sohag on Friday 16/08, accompanied by Father Ologious el Anba Bishoy, and Father Wissa el Anba Bishoy, to take charge of the administrative affairs. This came following the resignation of Father Bassilious el Anba Bishoy, who has been handling such matters at the monastery for a number of years. HG Bishop Youannes met with some officials there. ****************** The Christening (Tadsheen) of the Altars of St. Mary's cathedral in Helwan: In the morning of Mon. 12/08, HH the Pope gave the ascension prayers for three altars at St. Mary's cathedral in Helwan, by the names of Virgin Mary, Michael the Archangel, and St George the Martyr, together with some icons. HG Bishop Bisenty of Helwan Bishopric, HG Bishop Danial, and HG Bishop Youannes took part in the prayers. The cathedral is beautiful and spacious. HH the Pope commended HG Bishop Bisenty for the work he has done in this church. HH the Pope also distributed some medallions to all of those who shared in the work. It was very crowded, and the community was very happy for the christening of their cathedral. ***************** With TG the Bishops: At his residence in Anba Bishoy monastery, HH the Pope received some Monastery Heads: - HG Metropolitan Agathon, of Ismailia diosce, and Head of Anba Boula monastery. - HG Anba Sarabamon, Head of Anba Bishoy monastery - HG Anba Isetheiros, Head of Baramos monastery - HG Anba Bassilious, Head of the Anba Samuel monastery in the wilderness of Qalamon. - HG Bishop Kyrillos, of Milano and the one supervising the construction of out monastery in Milano. In Cairo, HH received HG Anba Yostos, Head of the Anba Antonious monastery in the Eastern wilderness. ***************** HG Bishop Bishoy: HG Bishop Bishoy left for Tanzania, to attend the conference for the Beliefs and Unity committee, for the International Church council, as a member of this committee. HG returned to Cairo on 25/08. ****************** HG Bishop Fam: HG Bishop Fam returned from a medical trip, where he visited England, The U.S. and Canada. He assisted HH the Pope in the ascension of priests in the Papal residence on Thurs. 15/08. ****************** HG Metropolitan Abraham: HG Metropolitan Abraham of Jerusalem phoned HH the Pope to offer his condolences to the family on the sad occasion of the passing away of Rev. Boutros Gayyed. He insisted on coming to take part of the Mass of the fortieth day. ****************** HG Bishop Timothaos: HG Bishop Timothaos left for Abou Teeg, for masses and sermons on Fri., Sat. And Sun, 23-25/08. ****************** HG Metropolitan Agathon: On Sat. 24/08 HG Metropolitan Agathon celebrated his 38'th year of monastecism. Our most sincere congratulations to HG. ******************* HG Bishop Moussa: HG headed a lot of successful confrences for the youth in the U.S. and Canada. He then left for Holland and England to hold similar conferences. HG was aided by TG Bishop Antonious Morcos, Bishop Serapion, Bishop Youssef, and Bishop Boulos. Among the activities was the festival in Long Island, U.S., which was attended by around 500 youths who participated in Artistic, Sports and Spiritual activities. And in the monastery, Thurs 15/08. ********************* With membersa of the Milli council: HH the Pope received, Tues. 13/08, Dr. General Fahmy Ayyad the council member, accompanied by his daughter Mariam who studies Egyptology in the U.S. At noon, on Mon. 19/08, HH received Mr. Wasfi Nashed, member of the general council. ********************** HG Bishop Kyrillos of Milano: HG came to Egypt Tues. 13/08 for a visit to the mother church for two weeks. HH the Pope received him in the papal residence in Cairo, and in the monastery, to check on the state of service in his bishopric. ********************* HG Bishop Samuel: We are glad that HG Bishop Samuel of shebeen el kanater has recovered, and returned to his bishopric. He was received by HH the Pope in the Anba Bishoy Monastery on Sat. 17/08. ********************* Service in Switzerland: Rev. Illarion of Anba Bishoy has returned from his service in Zurich, Switzerland. HH the Pope has commissioned Rev Epiphanos of Anba Bishoy to the service there. ********************* With the church of St. Mary and Anba Bishoy in the Anba Rowais district: HH the Pope received the clergy and council of this church on the morning of Tues. 13/08 where their needs for new priests were discussed. On Mon. 19/08 he also received them together with the archons and servants of the church were two servants were recommended: Dr. Gamal Fawzy Abd el Malek Dr. Moheb Maurice Wahba. ********************** The nominees for ascension for St. Mark's church, Heliopolis : HH the Pope met with the 4 Revs of St. Mark's church, Heliopolis, and then with the servants of the church. Maher Farid Wadie Mr. Kamal Sobhy Hanna The ascensions will be scheduled later.. ********************** A Joint committee to solve the problem of Coptic Awqaf: HE Dr. Mahmoud Hamdy Zakzouk agreed with HH the Pope on the formation of a joint committee of representatives from the Coptic church, and the Awqaf ministry, to discuss the problems of Coptic awqaf. HH the Pope has recommended five members of the Coptic awqaf Agency who are: HG Bishop Athanasious HG Bishop Bishoy HG Bishop Philobbos Gen. Eng. Tawfiq Ishac, Agency secretary. Gen. Eng. Abdou Ishac. HH also recommended also recommended: Mr. Fayek Fahim, Attorney Eng. Youssef Antoun Sidhom Mr. Fikry Habib, Attorney HE the minister has agreed to include all of these to the joint committee. >From the Awqaf ministry: Mr. Mustafa A/Fattah Mohammed, Head of the Egyptian Awqaf council. Mr. A/Rehim el Kordy, consultant Mr. Hasan Sayed Hasan. ***************** The passing-away of two archons: On Tues 13/08, Dr. Kamel Saad, father of HG Bishop Tadros of Port Said, passed away. The funeral took place on Wed. 14/08, at the church of St. George, Port Said. HH commisioned HG Bishop Youannes to take part in the prayers and offer condolences. The prayers were also performed by HG Bishop Tadros, and HG Bishop Angeilos. Also Mr. Kamal Ghabbour, the well known business man has passed away while abroad. After his body was brought back, prayers at the Grand cathedral in Abbasia, Cairo. HH the Pope headed the funeral service, and was accompanied by some bishops and a large number of clergymen. Maximos of Baramos, and Rev Samuel Ayyoub of St. Mary's church in Garden city. Applications are to be submitted to rge administration throughout the month of Sept., accompanied by a recommendation letter from the father of confession. ****************** Teaching Hymns (Alhan) to children: Children by nature love music and singing, and find a lot of fun in learning some lessons in tune. Thus they will have a great affinity to learning church hymns. We have found, through experience, excellent talents in little children who have sung long beautiful hymns at the Wed. Meeting at the cathedral. We hereby advise Christian families to teach their children church hymns, to fulfil their enjoyment from one side, and to prevent them turning to earthly songs. This is also to build up an ecclesiastical choir whose core are these children. Also so that these children live in the church environment from their early years. ********************* The Mass of the Fortieth day for Rev Boutros Gayyed: This will be headed by HH the Pope in St. Mary cathedral in Zeitoon, on the morning of Wed. Aug. 28'th. Accompanying HH in the prayers are some Metropolitans, Bishops, and clergymen. After mass, HH will visit Rev.
