HH entered the church, prayed the "Thanksgiving" then the "Blessing". Hundreds of visitors gathered in and around the church. HH blessed them all, one by one and went to his residence in the monastery. Meeting with the monks: ====================== At 18.30 pm, HH had a spiritual meeting with the monks for over 2 hours, he answered all their questions, spiritual, dogmatic, ritual.. Attended this meeting with the monks their graces: Abba Dometios, Abba Rueiss, Abba Fam, Abba Isodoros and Abba Joannes. HH asked the monks, who shall be chosen for monasticism, they agreed upon four and the apprval was presented to HH signed both by HG Abba Demetrius and the monastery monks. Ordination of four new monks: ============================ On Monday Jan 20th morning, HH ordained 4 new monks for MarMina monastery in the desert of Mariut who are: Frs Mikhail, Abraam, Morcos and Joannes. They recited after HG Abba Demetrius the sermon of the new monk and every one of them received a copy of it. Patricipated in the prayers 14 of the fathers then all had communion in the 40th day mass of the late HG Abba Mina Ava-Mina. The 40th day mass for The late HG Abba Mina Ava-Mina ============================== After the monks' ordination, began the mass prayers in the monastery's cathedral. HH celebrated the mass with 15 Metropolitan and bishop. Attended the Mass thousands of those who loved Abba Mina and had communion by 8 bishops. HH gave a lecture and prayed for the peace of the soul of HG Abba Mina. HH word about Abba Mina: ======================= HH talked about 4 sections in his life: - The foundation (in Tanta), when he received the midnight praise and directed prayer meetings. - Consecration (Giza) in 1950 having 27 years old. - Deacon service and disciple of the late HH Pope Kyrollos VI. - Monasticism, bihop and abbot, this period was characterised by building and spiritual paternity =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= M I S C E L L A N E O U S N E W S =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Police Feast: ---------------- On Jan 25th, HH attended the Police feast, where Mr President Mohamed Hosny Moubarak distributed medals and rewards to worthy policemen. Epiphany in Alexandria: ---------------------- HH celebrated the Epiphany Mass at St Mark Cathedral in Alexandria. Participated in the prayer, HG Abba Macarius the Eritrian, HG Abba Joannes, Hegumen Sharobeem El-Pachomy (The Patriarchate deputy) and the church priests, Hegumen Ibrahim F Nawar, Fr Georgius, Fr Morcos and Fr Johanna. Attended as well, the Alexandrian Congregational Council's deputy and members and thousands of the congregation. The "Iftar" of Ramadan month: ---------------------------- With coordination with the ministery of Habous, it was agreed on the following dates for the Ramadan "Iftar" celebrations. - The ministery of Habous celebration. Thursday Jan 30th. - Patriarchate in Cairo celebration. Saturday Feb 1st. - Patriarchate in Alexandria celebration. Monday Feb 8th. We knew that Heliopolis churches had their celebration at Sunday Jan 26th. With Metropolitans and Bishops: ------------------------------ Durings the last couple of weeks HH received some of the church fathers: - HG Abba Paula (Jan 13) before his departure to Australia to study Marital affairs. - HG Abba Joannes after his arrival from the "Life and Service Unit - MECC) meeting in Jordan. - HG Abba Pachomios (Sunday Jan 19th) concerning the building a new church in Marina City. - HG Abba Macare, bishop of Sinai (Monday Jan 13th) concerning the service in his diocese and the ordination of a new priest to serve with HG. HG Abba Rueiss in UK and Canada: ------------------------------- On Friday Jan 31st, HG Abba Rueiss travels to London where he gives a spiritual word at St Mark COC (London). Then he spends 6 days at Birmingham in Vespers, Masses, Lectures and visits to the surrounding small cities. Then HG travels to Toronto Canada, where he celebrates on Sunday Feb 9th, St Paula's feast in his church in London Ontario by a Vespers and a Mass. He spends the rest of the week in visiting people in the region of Kitchener and the service in St Mark and Sr George (Toronto) and Virgin Mary & St Athanasios COC (Mississauga). Then HG returns to Cairo with God's will on Feb 16th. HG Abba Joannes: --------------- Both on Friday Jan 24th and Saturday Jan 25th, HG Abba Joannes traveled to Suhag to supervise the work in St Shenouda the Archmandrite monatery (The white monastery) and presented to HH a report about the work. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= DIALOG BETWEEN ORIENTAL ORTHODOX CHURCHES AND THE WORLD ALLIANCE OF REFORMED CHURCHES =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The meeting was held at the Syrian (Indian) Theological Institute in the period Jan 10-15 '97 at Cothayam India. Attended from the Orthodox Churches: The Coptic, the Indian and the Armenian. Represents us at the dialog both HG Abba Pishoi and HG Abba Moussa. This is the third meeting in the dialog, as the first was held at St Bishoy monastery and was headed by HH Pope Shenouda III and the second was held in the Netherlands and HH gave a speech there. The main topic was: "The Bible - Inspiration & Authority", another topic was "The Theologians role in the church". The Coptic church presented the first paper and the Indian the second one. A detailed discussion was made in the two topics which lasted for many sessions and every part proved what it believes in the Final Report of the Dialog. The next meeting (Jan 10-15 '98) will be held in Baltimore MD USA and it will be about: - Nature of the church - Role of the church The Coptic church will present a paper about the first topic and the Armenian will present about the second one. The two groups attended an "Aghape" dinner at MarMatthews II, Catholicos of the Indian church. The Coptic group visited as well the Syrian church in Bombay. Book about the late HG Abba Mina Ava-Mina: ----------------------------------------- The monstery of MarMina released a book about Abba Mina named: Mokallal Bel-Magd (Crowned with Glory). Attended the meeting HG Abba Joannes. Stevanage Youth visiting Scotland: --------------------------------- Fr Angelos, priest of Archangel Michael (North London) accompanied the Youth of his church in a trip to Scotland. It is a good chance for the youth in our different churches in UK to know each other. The youth did already have a trip to Birmingham. Media Unit at the MECC: ---------------------- On Saturday Jan 11th, HH received the General secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches (Dr Riyad Jarjur) with the members of the Media Commitee, among them: 1- HG Metropolitan MarGeorge Saliba, Metropolitan of Lebanon and head of the Media Unit. 2- Mr Kameel Mansy, Head Deputy of the Unit. 3- HG Abba Morcos, bishop of Shoubra El-Khema. 4- Mr Samir Morcos, Unit Head in Egypt. 5- Mr Adeeb Naguib. With the deputy of the Greek Church: ----------------------------------- On Saturday Jan 1th, HH received in the Papal Residence in Alexandria: - HG Metropolitan Paul, deputy of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch in Egypt and Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Johannesburg. - With Metropolitan Dionesios, Metropolitan of Noba and Khartoum. - Mr George Viet, Cyprus General Consulate in Egypt. attended the meeting Hegumen Tadros El-Pachomy, General deputy of the Patriarchate in Alexandria and Mr Nader Morcos. The ordination of a new priest for Sinai: ---------------------------------------- Based on the proposal of HG Abba Macare bishop of Sinai, HH ordained a new priest for the service there: Fr Ibrahim Saleeb Meshreky The ordination took place at St Antonios COC in the Papal residence Cairo.
