Keraza No 41-44, December '99 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= THREE NEW BISHOPS FOR THE LAND OF IMMIGRATION =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The 14th of November 1999 was indeed a happy day for all of us since Abba Suriel was named bishop for Melbourne in Australia. The same day, two bishops were consecrated for the land of immigration - Bishop Angelos for the Coptic Center in Stevenage, London UK - Bishop David for the Ministry in USA. The consecration was attended by 61 bishop and Abuna Philoppos I the Patriarch of Eritrea who participated in the consecration of vestments of the new bishops. The three bishops attended the celebration that was held at St Bishoy Monastery in the occasion of the 28th anniversay of the Pope's Papcy. The same day (14-Nov-99), 10 priests were ordained for Cairo, three for the Congo (Zaire) and two for USA and Canada. Both Their Graces Abba Suriel and Abba Angelos graduated from universities in Australia. Abba Suriel is qualified BSc of Science and Diploma in Education Abba Angelos is qualified BA Major Philosphy Minor Sociology and Political Science. Bishop Suriel served in the Papal Residence in St Bishoy Monastery then in Honolulu Island (Hawaii) and then supervised the Papal Residence in Cedar Grove NJ, USA and finally he became Bishop of Melbourne. On Tuesday 23 November 99, he shall travel to USA from where he flies to Sydney on 3 December 99 in order to be enthrowned on 4 December 99. HG Bishop Angelos supervised the Papal Residence in St Bishoy Monastery and then ministered the youth at the Coptic Center in Stevenage and supervised the Theological Seminary there and was consecrated General Bishop to resume his ministry there. HG Bishop David graduated from York University, Toronto Canada. As monk, his name was Fr Boules Anba-Bishoy and served in the Coptic Center in Birmingham and the region of Notingham UK. He shall supervise the Papal Residence in Cedar Grove NJ, USA in place of Bishop Suriel. The three new bishops master the English Language as they studied in Australia and Canadian universities. The language would be of great help in their ministry. We congratulate them and pray the Lord to grant them success in their ministry and pastoral care for the youth and the new generations in the land of immigration. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Pope Receives the Archbishop of Canterbury =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= On Wednesday 24 November 99, Pope Shenouda received Rev'd George Carey the Archbishop of Canterbury with his wife Mrs Helen Carey and His Excellency Mr Graham Boyce the Ambassador of UK in Egypt and his wife and Rev's Ghayes the Bishop of the Anglican Church in Egypt and Dr Mounir Hanna Anis the delegated Bishop who shall succeed Rev'd Ghayes and Rev'd Richard Mar the secretary of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The meeting was attended by HE Abba Bishoy and HG Abba Moussa along with Bishops Ruweis, Marcos, Boutros, Daniel, Angelos and David. After the talk and exchange of presents, the Archbishop of Canterbury had a meeting with Dr Tantawy the Grand Cheikh of Al-Azhar Mosque. He presented a word after which both Pope Shenouda and Cheikh Tantawy commented. Then they all had lunch together at Al-Azhar Residence. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Departure of Hegumen Daoud Tadros =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= We were touched by the sudden departure of Hegumen Daoud Tadros the Prior of the Patriarchate in Cairo. He was among us in the Pastoral Care Institute on Tuesday 8 November 99 evening. The same night he was rushed to El-Salam Hospital Mohandeseen. The next day (Tuesday), he was visited by HG Bishop Joannes the Pope's Secretary. On the dawn of Wednesday 10 November 99, he departed. The funeral took place on Thursday 11 November 99 at 15:00 pm at the Great St Mark Cathedral. It was conducted by HH Pope Shenouda with some 32 Metropolitan and Bishop, more than 150 priest and thousands of laymen. The Pope gave the homily where he said: "Hegumen Daoud left at a speed that I wasn't psychologicaly prepared to. Now Lord what can I say? Nothing but what the words of the psalm: I put my hands on my mouth and kept silent, because Thou didst. May Your will be done" After the funeral, the priests carried the body and turned around the altar according to the tradition of the church. On Friday 12 November 99, the prayer of the Third day was held at Virgin Mary Church (Rod El-Farag). The prayer took place after the mass which was celebrated by Bishops Arsenios and Isodorus along with Fr Jeremiah Ava-Mina from the Pope's Seceratriat and more than 50 priests. The church was crowded that day with many people who loved the late Heg. Daoud Tadros. - Born in the name Wadie on 13 January 1927 in Fisha Damanhour, Governorate of Behera. - BSc of Commerce, Cairo University and worked as Foreign Currency Financial Auditor at the Ministry of Accomodation. He is member of the Syndicate of Commercials and graduated from the Institute if Taxes. - On 23 July 1976, he was ordained priests by Pope Shenouda at St Mark Old Cathedral (Ezbekia) and was named Daoud taking the blessing of the late Fr Daoud El-Macary whose secular name was Wadie too. - On 23 January 1987, he was promoted Hegumen by Pope Shenouda at St Antonios Church at the Papal Residence in Cairo. - Before his ordination, he graduated from the Theological Seminary and after his ordination he enrolled and graduated from the first class of the Pastoral Care Institute. Before his departure he took charge of the following responsibilities: * Prior of the Patriarchate in Cairo * Head of the Council of Virgin Mary Church (Rod El-Farag). * Member of the Holy Synod, allowed to attend all synodal committees except the Monastic Affairs Synodal Committee. * Member of the General Congregational Council and representing the Education Committee and member of the administrative committee in the Council. * Secretary of the Clerical Council for Personal Affairs. * Delegate of the Pontificial Committee for Clergy Affairs and delegate of the General Administration for Cairo Priests. * Head of the Wedding Contracts Departement at the Patriarchate. He was characterized with his activity, hard work and love for service. Although very busy, it didn't prevent him caring for prayers. He cared to arrive early in the morning even in days where he is not celebrating. Ahdy Abdel-Malek on Sunday 21 Nov 99. Pope Shenouda conducted the funeral on Tuesday 23 Nov 99 evening at Virgin Mary Church (Massara). The funeral was attended by 10 bishops and some 50 priest. His secular name before ordination was Anis Halim Tewfik Born in Luxor 13 May 1940. Graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture Cairo University on 1961. Began his ministry as Sunday School Teacher at Virgin Mary Church Massara on 1969 and lead the Sunday School service in the church in the period 1975-91. He graduated from the Theological Seminary on 1974 and from the Bible Institute on 1976. He was ordained priest for Virgin Mary Church Massara on 11 Nov 1990 till he was delegated for ministring in the USA on 15 Nov 1991. He supervised the construction of St Mina Minastery Homdel. He bought the land and finished building the first phase on 11 July 1998 which the Pope inaugurated and was impressed with upon his visit. On 6 September 1999, he was graduated Hegumen at the Papal Residence Church in Cedar Grove.
